Ester de Beer is an experienced, friendly and open-minded clinical psychologist with a passion for individual psychotherapy and couples counselling.  More than 8000 individuals have consulted her in her private practice.  She is non-judgmental and comfortable working with the diverse people of the rainbow nation; with people of all walks of life, cultural backgrounds and ways of living.  She has worked with people of different ethnic groups, sexual orientations and of different religious views.

She uses her own life experiences, including motherhood, various losses and setbacks, to the benefit of her patients.

Credentials

Ester de Beer obtained all her degrees with distinction (cum laude) and got the award for the best student for the postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education at the UFS. She is registered with the HPCSA as a clinical psychologist in independent practice: PS0035963 and her private practice is registered with the BHF/PCSN: 086 100 8627584. She is also affiliated with independent Employee Assistance and Wellness Programs, including Healthi Choices, Proactive Health Solutions and Life Assist. In the corporate environment she has facilitated groups and processes for ABSA, Standard Bank of SA, G4S, ESKOM, PEP, ENGEN and other companies. This work includes change management, leadership skills, stress management and post-traumatic stress debriefing.

Career Path

Ester de Beer has been in full-time independent private practice since 2003. Prior to that she gained valuable experience being employed by UNIBS at the University of the Free State; at the Free State Psychiatric Complex; at the SAPS; at Motheo FET college and at the Central University of Technology.

Her practice is based on scientific research.  She is a ferocious reader and endeavours to keep abreast of cutting edge research in the fields of Psychology, Psychiatry, Neurology and related fields.  She also participates in Continued Professional Development.

She is eager to improve her skills and has used learning opportunities, including Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction retreats, workshops in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy,  Somatic Experience Integration Therapies,  Psychodynamic Therapies, Sex Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy, Mindful Self-Compassion Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and many more.  She also enjoys sharing her knowledge and has given presentations to colleagues, psychiatrists and the public on various topics, including Couples Counselling,  Postmodern Therapies, Mindfulness, Mood disorders and Change Management.  She facilitates weekly group sessions on Emotional Resilience at Bloemcare Psychiatric Hospital.
